Today is the last day of life as I know it. Or, countdown is now 14 hours before the first class begins. Or, It's been a week since my last blog post and that's because I've been so dang busy! Or, Tomorrow I stand at the doorway of a new adventure. Or, all of the above. :-)
I did finally, FINALLY, get all my books! Yee haw. I only had to reorder five and I only got one extra by mistake. It goes back tomorrow via USPS along with a box of Mac & Cheese to may friend (hey!) in Switzerland (I meant, I'm sending it back tomorrow and I'm also sending out a box to my friend...one trip to the post office, not one package to the same person....) LOL Evidently you can't buy Kraft Mac and Cheese in Switzerland. Go figure!
The books weighed in at over 65 lbs. That's the weight of a normal 10 year old boy. I'm not carrying them around with me all day! Fortunately I will probably only need to lug a few at a time, and I can always leave some in the Lexus for quick retrieval if needed.
Last weeks recount of activities....for anyone interested in knowing.
Monday - labor of client with 3rd baby, hoping for a quick home birth. Got there at 11:30. Mom in hard labor. Midwife happy to see me. Baby reluctant to be born quickly. Harder labor. For hours. Nice weather, though and I had a paperback book to read now and then. Hardest labor. Mom begs me to take her to the hospital for a c/section. Baby born 2 minutes later at 5:36 pm.
Other client, who called in the morning at 8 am stating she was in labor but whom I didn't hear from the rest of the day, calls back and says she is going to the birthcenter around 8 pm. Her mom calls again at 6:30 pm and tells me that they are headed out to the birthcenter earlier because labor has picked up a great deal and they want to beat the thunderstorm/traffic. I leave birth home 1 at 7:45 and head to birthcenter (all the postpartum work was done, and midwife was okay with me leaving then). I made it there by 8 pm (no dinner, and hungry). Client 2 is in active labor, 8 cm dilated. I found a frozen pizza in the freezer, left by some wonderful client for a birth assistant who was starving and that was me! and I put it in the oven. Client 2 has baby at 10:30. I only got a few bites of the pizza, but it was way yummy!
I leave birth center at 3 am, but I was ready to leave by 2. Waiting on midwife to release client. Baby had to nurse an extra 30 minutes once everything else was already done....
Tuesday - Home at 4 am and bed by 4:15 am. Got up a 9 because that's when I woke up. I was going to go to yoga class, but I wasn't feeling well. Did some work on the computer and went back to bed. Felt REALLY BAD and took some pain killers. Gave B the keys to drive to work in my car. Missed my Student Nurse Orientation at GMU. Bummer. I didn't even remember it until 8 pm when dh came home. Went back to bed feeling pretty bad. Slept all night. What was that, about 20 hours of sleep?
Wednesday - Dropped B at college. First day! and went to home visits (one ppv, one supply check on new client). Got back in time to pick up B from college. Drove B to look at cars. Drive B to work. Drove over 100 miles.
Thursday - Dropped B at school, got gas, drove to the other ppv in MD. Over 60 miles roundtrip and in traffic. Picked up B at school. Getting tired of driving B back and forth from school. Still putting too much time in car driving. Drive B to work. Worship team rehearsal in evening. Go to bed at 11 pm. (friend drives B home!)
Friday - B wants to look at car in Bealton, VA. Over an hour drive! I want to go to the pool and lie in the sun. Ugh. Drive to Bealton. Drive really fast, sporty, red car. Feel lots of pressure from B to buy the 'Car of My Dreams' aka the mom's worst nightmare. I don't think so! Drive back an hour and stop for coffee and a sandwich. Quality time with B. B is on phone talking to friends. Bummer. Drop B at college (this is getting old!). I downloaded three syllabi from classes and print them out at B's college. Only cost me $5 to print 80 pages of paper. Missed B's call that the class got out early. Got home and client calls to say she is probably in labor and will have the baby tonight. Go to the house at 10 pm. Baby is born at midnight (actually, by my watch 12:01, but the parents want the baby born before midnight. Okay, my watch is fast?) Mom's birthday is Saturday and she wants the baby to have her own bday. Whatever.
Saturday - get home at 4 am. Write a quick note on computer to my partners (hey!) and go to bed. Get up at 9 am and see K who is home to take a test at nvcc. K leaves. I leave to get J to soccer practice and meet Cheri (hey!) for lunch (happy birthday on Sunday). Pick up J from practice and shop with J and Cheri. Stop at two more stores on the way home from shopping (was I asleep or just crazy? B and K needed flash drives....ugh) B gets a car with Dad! I'm out of that, yeah me. Take J to a movie, Cheri will bring her home. I watch tv with N, who falls asleep. I have mental breakdown. J comes home. B and Dad come home with car. K finally comes in (was babysitting for Kelly)...I'm exhausted and go to bed after ranting/crying a bit and cleaning the kitchen. Why do I feel better after cleaning the kitchen? Good therapy I guess.
Sunday - lay piano for service. Get home at 12:30 pm. Eat lunch. Read English text to K for a couple of hours. Take a quick nap. Talk to other sister, Rhonda (hey!) on phone. Wished her happy birthday for tomorrow. Get on computer and up date blog. Go to ppv home visit. Study with K again. Obsess about school a bunch. Go to sleep and then get up extra early to start new adventure. Walk through the doorway of a new life.... Or, whatever.
