Skipping class pays off!

I skipped class classes today because I was at a birth. I wanted to go to this birth as she was a repeat client and I've missed all my other repeats for this month. I was so bummed from the past missed births that I decided, "what the heck!" and I went to this one. I emailed a fellow 'mature' student and asked her what I missed and this is the email I got from her (Thanks D!) This is WAY FUNNY in some warped way.

My questions was....What did I miss???

You didn't miss a thing. There was NOTHING said of any value. The entire class was spent talking about surgery and all of it was common knowledge. ...

For example, we were told there are different types of surgery (i.e., cosmetic surgery, emergency surgery, diagnostic surgery, elective surgery, explorative surgery and so on ) People have surgery for different reasons...think of it that way. There are 3 phases of surgery (pre-surgery, during the during the surgery, and post surgery.)

There's outpatient surgery (in and out the same day) and inpatient surgery (stay over in hospital.)

Oh, yes, and that ever mind boggling question....what is the difference between major and minor surgery???

Answer: Major surgery is major and minor surgery is minor.

What patients pose greater surgical risk?

Answer: Obese patients and already sick patients.

It was a valuable waste of time today! I'll be happy to go over the notes with you, it will take no more than 2 minutes to cover what you missed and you already know it...

Question: What would cataract surgery be, major or minor?

minor. Of course, if it was in one's own eye, it would be major! ;) However, if there are no vital organs involved, e.g. lungs, heart, liver, etc. then it's minor.
