Well, having gotten an A in psych is one thing, having a 18 year old young man go 'crazy' in my house is another. A friend of my elder son was over at my house (as he often is) and he started acting very strange. He was getting more and more 'disorganized' in his thinking. Weird things, like asking what day it was. Saying he 'got it' about nothing...indicating that he thought there was some grand scheme to life and he was the one who 'got it'.
I ended up driving him home at midnight on Wednesday morning. He said he hadn't slept in 3 days, but that he had napped a couple of hours that day. He thought he was in a video game some of the time. It sounded like he was either on a really bad drug induced trip of some sort, or that he was really losing his grip on reality. In any event, I was happy to take him home and get him OUT OF MY HOUSE.
Later on Wednesday, his parents took him to the ER at Fx hospital and they admitted him to the psych ward for observation, and I guess to rule out serious psych disease. B has not gotten to see him, although he went yesterday evening and tried to visit. B left a note, along with some of the other friends of the boy. Tonight B wants to go and visit him again, this time he will go with the boy's mom. The nurses thought he'd be able to visit. It has really shaken up B's world as they were best best friends and this is VERY out of character for the boy.
On another note, Suzi, my surprise 17 year old run away visitor, left today with her sister to go back home. Yeah! She was a very nice kid and not a problem at all. I wonder what the effect of watching this other boy's decline into mental illness will have on her? She watched the whole thing and hopefully it will be a reality check for her, too. Maybe life in her home isn't all that bad after all?
