Catching up!

Flylady says, "You're not behind," so taking a page from her book, I'm jumping in right where I am today. Background info will seep in, no doubt, at just the precise time needed.

Today I hope to hear from GMU Nursing program people (don't really know the names behind the positions) to sign up for clinical rotations. According to the totally worthless, waste-of-my-valuable-time meeting on the 17th, I'm to get a letter with options for the order of my clinicals. This will determine which classes I can register for (lab sections) for the Fall Semester. I'd like to have this info. I'd like to get my duck in a row...order name tag, purchase books, etc.

I'll post when the 'post' or snail mail arrives and let you know the options given.

Though, I really don't know the implications of the selections. We (students) are going to end up at all the clinicals anyway. Maybe we can choose which hospital/setting we prefer first? or is it so that we can, possibly, hopefully, pick the locations we prefer, as in, I want to drive to Prince William Hospital (close to home) rather than Sibley (in DC)? Well, wouldn't it have been nice if that was explained at the pointless, useless, waste-of-my-valuable-time orientation last week?

GMU Transfer Orientation (aka: waste-of-my-valuable-time meeting)

Mandatory

Didn't accomplish much, and nothing that needed me to be there in person

Designed to 'sell' the school to students who are already admitted

Useless b/c I didn't get to:
>get my GMU id
>get a parking pass for the next year
>ask/answer questions re: parking passes (specifically, does the $360 parking deck pass guarantee a place in the parking deck or just give me the right to hunt for said space? How many of these elite passes are sold? How many spots are designated for elite parking deck pass holders? That kind of info would be helpful to people trying to decide which pass to purchase.
>register for the one class we were instructed to register for by our department (nursing) [here after known as ND]

Registering for classes was the main point of the orientation, as far as I could gather, and my department has blocked all registrations until clinical assignments have been made. Even for classes without clinicals!

Okay, it wasn't COMPLETELY USELESS...I was able to do was activate my email account. Something which I couldn't do from home because I had to attend the MANDATORY orientation before I was allowed to activate my email! Pretty darn stupid if you ask me! And, I didn't have and don't have any email in the account to read, so it was ALMOST pointless.

And, since my account was activated I did get to see I have been awarded boon of taking out an interest free (i.e. paid by the gov't) loan (subsidized loan) for the total amount of $5,500 for the school year. This is about 1/3 of the money I will need to get through the BSN program, but hey, I'll take it! Now I just need to figure out HOW to get the loan secured. This is a project for the future. As far as I can tell, I can't secure the loan without registering, and I can't register until I make the clinical selections, and I can't make the clinical selections until I get the paper from the school, which should come in the mail. Maybe today. Which brings me back to where I started this entry.
