Day one

Well, I have a ton of homework already. I worked really hard yesterday to figure out my schedule. There was one gal in class today that just got in the program last week. Must have been a couple people who declined at the last minute. I can't help but feel a bit sorry for her. She asked how she was supposed to get the homework done when she didn't have the books yet. Good question!

I went by the bookstore to think about picking up the patch I am supposed to sew on to my lab jacket and I saw this huge line and walked back out again. No thank you! It can wait until the lines are shorter. It will have to wait, because I'm not big on wasting time standing in lines.

There were 8 or 9 men in our group of 2nd Degree students. There was at least one lady older than me. Maybe. I assume she is older because she LOOKED a lot older than I (imho!). At least my hair isn't completely gray (or even a little gray) yet. That helps.

I did get asked by one student how old I was. Bummer. I told the truth. I didn't have to, but I'm not ashamed. Just aware that I'm going back to a school I first attended 30 years ago. Gggggs, where did those 30 years go???

Pathophysiology - first 5 weeks is a concentration on peds, then OB/GYN, then psych. Looks like a very comprehensive course. Meets Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 am to 10:20 am.

Group Dynamics - meets only on Mondays. Three books to read, but not too much info (small books). Group projects. Half of the class time is lecture and half is group time. Our group picked the name Scrubs (how original!) and we are going to rotate leadership and presentation jobs throughout the semester. I have three papers to write for this class. One if my personal nursing philosophy. Do I have a personal nursing philosophy? I guess I'll come up with one (2 pages, double spaced.)

Tomorrow I only have one class (as the clinicals don't start this week) but it's from 1:30 to 4 pm. I guess I'll figure out what I need to do for that class tonight. At least I don't have to get up before dawn yet. (yawn)

Wednesday is my long day. Monday and Fridays are my shorter days. Of course all the days I am required to be in class. I'll copy a schedule sometime and put it up on the blog. The one thing I found out today is that I COULD have taken two classes this summer, which would have been nice, because then things wouldn't have been quite so busy this fall. Oh well. No one told me. It all depended on which 'orientation' you went to in the year prior to being admitted into the program. Would have made sense if they had sent out a note to the effect that, 'You've been accepted into our program and can take a class or two over the summer if you want to lighten your fall semester workload.' But no one sent out that email/note. So only those who have friends who have graduated from the program in the past, or who happened to be lucky and hear about the classes in time, got to take advantage of this particular option.

Bummer that you didn't know you could front-load some of your schedule to the summer.
