my performance review from the clinical professor

Audrey F.

1. Competency: Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors

Performance Criteria: Rated as a 3 are # 2,3,5,7, 9, 10, 13,14

Comments:

Audrey required minimal instructor guidance and prompting in the above performance criteria and she consistently demonstrated improvement in efficiency, coordination of care, and confidence throughout the clinical experience as she actively promoted the highest level of moral and ethical principles and accepting responsibility for her actions.

Audrey expressed enthusiasm and inspiration toward nursing as a profession, she was organized, motivated and an active learner. Audrey, demonstrated her ability to relate to children and their families as she implemented the family center care principles. She provided quality nursing care that focused on the holistic needs of the child/family and care was directed toward achieving mutual goals and outcomes to foster health and well being. Audrey consistently provided significant and relevant contributions in pre and post conferences as well as to the health care team in order to enhance nursing practice and patient care.

2. Competency: Gather and analyze comprehensive patient assessment data

Performance Criteria: Rated as a 3 are # 1, 3, 5

Comments:

Audrey received a 99% on the pediatric assessment assignment. She consistently demonstrated improvement in efficiency, coordination of care, and confidence throughout the clinical experience. She demonstrated independence in thought and action as she cared for many children with complex needs as well as varied cultural and developmental differences. Audrey consistently initiated a therapeutic relationship with her patients and families as she incorporated the family centered principles into her nursing practice. Audrey adapted her assessment techniques as she had been assigned to infants, children and adolescents with varied developmental levels and health problems.

Competency 3 : Provide individualized patient care and outcome evaluation

Performance Criteria: Rated as a 3 are # 1,2, 4, 6-8, 13, 14, 16, 17

Comments:

Audrey demonstrated caring and focused on the family centered care principles consistently throughout the clinical. She demonstrated a genuine concern for the children and families and emulated compassionate nursing care. Audrey’s caring behaviors where holistic and did not need instructor promoting or guidance. She established patient needs and prioritized her nursing care based upon the patient/family needs. Audrey was meticulous in her nursing care and made sure that her student nursing responsibilities were completed prior to leaving the unit. Audrey had patients that required acute care and careful monitoring and assessments, she was able to ascertain when a patient was in distress and seek out optimal assistance immediately.

Audrey provided nursing care at the expected level for one pediatric patient, as many of her assigned patients had high acuity needs. However, Audrey could have been assigned two pediatric patients and she would have successfully performed at the expected level.

Rated as a 1: # 5

As Audrey continues in the nursing program and advances her knowledge in skills in future clinical areas she will improve in her ability to prepare patients for interventions.

4. Competency: Adhere to principles of safety and infection control (medication/procedures/interventions, etc.)

Performance Criteria: Rated as a 3 # 9-13

Comments: Audrey consistently used universal/standard precautions (washing hands, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, avoiding needlesticks). She completes hourly patient rounds according to agency and/or instructor guidelines

She consistently checked for patient the ID and correct procedures at all times

She maintained an environment free from hazards, which was clean, and neat, thereby promoting infection control measures and safe practices. Audrey consistently requested assistance from the instructors and the nurses

5. Competency: Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, patients, and families

Performance Criteria: Rated as a 3 1-4, 6, 7

Comments:

Audrey consistently demonstrated effective communication and collaboration skills.

She was able to adapt the communication strategies based on the developmental level of the child and the families needs so interaction expectations would be realistic. She used nonverbal communication including therapeutic touch and voice to support and encourage the pediatric patient communication process.

She consistently conveyed mutual respect, trust, support, and appreciation for other members of the health care team, patients, families, instructor, classmates. She conferred with the multidisciplinary health care team and instructors, providing safe and compassionate nursing care.


* Audrey received compliments from the nursing staff commending her on her caring, compassionate nursing actions and her ability to apply the scientific nursing principles into the pediatric nursing environment.
